Jobs Jokes About ‘Bandaids for iPhone 4?, then…

July 21st, 2010

Yes, this is sourced from Engadget. Yes, Blogs are beating a dead horse on the ‘Antenna Issue’. But honestly, this is too funny not to post.

During the iPhone 4 Press conference Steve Jobs joked about needing a band-aid to cover the ‘problem corner’ of the iPhone 4, and what do you know, someone goes and makes it. Of course.

I, for one, am pleased to know that it ‘Works Like Magical’, and that the colours are visible by the Human Retina, that’s a relief. :)

How to Save Your SHSH Blob

July 21st, 2010

Save SHSH Blob

With the release of Spirit now imminent, it would be a good thing to save your SHSH blob, in case you need to downgrade in the future. Saving your iPhone SHSH is very simple.

Step 1: Download Firmware Umbrella from here.

Step 2: Launch Firmware Umbrella and plug your iPhone in.

Step 3: Click “Save My SHSH” and wait for Firmware Umbrella to do the job.

Done! A copy will be saved to your computer and it will also send a request to Cydia to save your SHSH on Saurik’s server.

iTunes book scam, Evo versus iPhone 4, iPhone 4 reception issues a non-issue

July 20th, 2010

iPhone users will want to check their accounts after a scam surfaced where accounts on iTunes were hacked and bogus charges were made for books. Some users report 00 in charges for bogus books.

Sister site SlashGear has a column where the case for the EVO 4G versus iPhone 4 is made. If you are trying to decide between the new iPhone 4 and the Evo 4G this story is worth a read.

Apple announced late last week that the widely reported issues with the iPhone 4 and its reception were due in part to a bad formula. Apple says the reason the iPhone 4 shows less bars when held is due in part to a formula that shows more bars than the iPhone 4 really has.

GE app finds mood lighting for your room, iOS4.1 fixes signal bars, iPhone 4 press conference Friday

July 20th, 2010

GE has announced a new app for the iPhone called Mood Lighting Cam that lets you snap a picture of a room in your home. The app will then put filters over the image to show you what bulbs you need to get different lighting moods in the room.

The new iOS4.1 update has landed and it fixes the issue with the strength bars displaying more signal than you have. The underlying issue with the reception of the device remains.

Apple is hosting a press conference tomorrow specifically about the iPhone 4 and sister site SlashGear will be there. I don’t expect a recall on the device; Apple will give out free bumpers before a recall is issued.

Quirky Tilt for iPhone 4, white iPhone 4 in London, iPhone DSLR prototype

July 19th, 2010

Quirky makes all manner of wild products that are designed by the community. The company has a cool new iPhone 4 bumper case called the Tilt that has a flip down section to prop the smartphone up.

The iPhone 4 will eventually be offered in white and black colors, though it launched in black only. If you are holding out for the white iPhone 4 apparently, the handset may be in London now. Lots of white iPhone boxes in crates were spied by a geek last night.

I have no idea why you would want to cram your iPhone in a DSLR case. If you need a high-end camera, just carry a high-end camera. If the thought intrigues you, the iPhone DSLR prototype has surface and has to be one of the ugliest accessories ever.
